Emilíana Torrini Davíðsdóttir (born 16 May 1977) is an Icelandic singer, best known for her 2009 single "Jungle Drum", 1999 album Love in the Time of Science and for performing "Gollum's Song" for Peter Jackson's film The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.
Icelandic vocalist Emiliana Torrini shares more than a record label with Björk, they also share a similar vocal style and a similar pixie-esque persona. Torrini was born in 1977 to a multicultural household (her father is from Italy, her mother is from Iceland), and showed an interest in music at a very young age. Her professional musical career started with the band Tjalz Gissur in 1992 when she was 15 years old, and continued two years later when she founded the band Spoon. Their debut CD became very popular in Iceland and two of the songs, "Tomorrow" and "Taboo," each hit number one on the Icelandic music charts. Her first solo album Croucie D'ou Lá' was released in 1995 and had the fortune to have both top spots on the singles charts with "Crazy Love" and "I," respectively. Merman, her second solo album, arrived in 1996, followed by 1999's Love in the Time of Science. This album, recorded in London, showed a move to a more electronic sound, earned the attention of One Little Indian Records (Björk's record company), and was distributed by Virgin worldwide in 2000. She won the Icelandic music awards for best female singer in 1994, 1997, and 2000.
