Wouter De Backer (born 21st of May, 1980), more commonly known by the stage name Gotye, is an ARIA Award-winning singer-songwriter. Born in Belgium but based in the Australian city of Melbourne, Gotye describes his work as "about refiguring past things (old vinyl sounds) with my own ideas".
Wouter Andre "Wally" De Backer (born 21 May 1980), better known as Gotye (pronounced ), is a Belgian-Australian Gotye's 2011 single "Somebody That I Used to Know" reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, making him the fifth Australian-based artist to do so and the second Belgian (after The Singing Nun in 1963).
